Corporation Tax Act 2009

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

1042O Adaptation of entitlement for certain insurance businesses

(1) This section applies if— (a) for an accounting period, an insurance company is charged to tax in respect of its basic life assurance and general annuity business in accordance with the I-E rules, and (b) the calculation of the company’s charge to tax for the period in respect of that business does not involve the calculation of any BLAGAB trade profit or loss of the company. (2) The reference in section 1042B(3)(a) to expenditure that is allowable as a deduction in calculating the profits of the trade for an accounting period is to be read as a reference to expenditure that would be so allowable if the company were to calculate its BLAGAB trade profit or loss for the period. (3) The reference in section 1042H to calculating the profits of the trade is to be read as a reference to calculating the I-E profit of the basic life assurance and general annuity business carried on by the company. (4) Any receipt to be brought into account by virtue of this section is to be treated for the purposes of section 92 of FA 2012 (certain BLAGAB trading receipts to count as deemed I-E receipts) as if it had been taken into account in calculating the company’s BLAGAB trade profit or loss for the period. (5) In this section, “BLAGAB trade profit” and “BLAGAB trade loss” have the meanings given by section 136 of FA 2012.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
