Propose a change

Government of Wales Act 2006

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

97 Introduction of proposed Assembly Measures

(1) A proposed Assembly Measure may, subject to the standing orders, be introduced in the Senedd — (a) by the First Minister, any Welsh Minister appointed under section 48, any Deputy Welsh Minister or the Counsel General, or (b) by any other Member of the Senedd . (2) The person in charge of a proposed Assembly Measure must, on or before the introduction of the proposed Assembly Measure, state that, in that person's view, its provisions would be within the Senedd's legislative competence. (3) The Presiding Officer must, on or before the introduction of a proposed Assembly Measure in the Senedd — (a) decide whether or not, in the view of the Presiding Officer, the provisions of the proposed Assembly Measure would be within the Senedd's legislative competence, and (b) state that decision. (4) A statement under this section must be made in both English and Welsh; but, subject to that, the form of the statement and the manner in which it is to be made are to be determined under the standing orders. (5) The standing orders— (a) may provide for a statement under this section to be published, and (b) if they do so, must provide for it to be published in both English and Welsh.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
