Identity Documents Act 2010

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

13 Transitional provision

(1) The repeal and re-enactment of provisions by this Act does not affect the continuity of the law. (2) Any subordinate legislation or other thing which— (a) has been made or done under or for the purposes of a provision repealed and re-enacted by this Act, and (b) is in force or effective immediately before commencement, has effect after commencement as if made or done under or for the purposes of the corresponding provision of this Act. (3) Any reference (express or implied) in any enactment, instrument or document to a provision of this Act is to be read as including, in relation to times, circumstances or purposes in relation to which any corresponding provision repealed by this Act had effect, a reference to that corresponding provision. This subsection applies only so far as the context permits. (4) Any reference (express or implied) in any enactment, instrument or document to a provision repealed and re-enacted by this Act is to be read, in relation to times, circumstances or purposes in relation to which the corresponding provision of this Act has effect, as a reference or (as the context may require) as including a reference to that corresponding provision. This subsection applies only so far as the context permits. (5) Any reference to a provision repealed and re-enacted by this Act which is contained in a document made, served or issued after commencement is to be read, except so far as a contrary intention appears, as a reference or (as the context may require) as including a reference to the corresponding provision of this Act. (6) In this section “commencement” means the commencement of this section. (7) This section has effect instead of section 17(2) of the Interpretation Act 1978 (but is without prejudice to section 16 and the other provisions of that Act).

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
