Defence Reform Act 2014

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

34 Enforcement

(1) This section applies where the Secretary of State has given a penalty notice to a person. (2) If all or part of the penalty is not paid before the payment date, the unpaid balance carries interest from that date at the rate for the time being specified in section 17 of the Judgments Act 1838. (3) The “payment date” is the date by which the penalty must be paid, as stated in the penalty notice. (4) But where the SSRO, in determining a matter mentioned in section 32(7), states a new date by which the penalty must be paid, the “payment date” is that new date. (5) The Secretary of State may recover from the person as a debt due to the Secretary of State the unpaid balance and any unpaid interest.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
