Mesothelioma Act 2014

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

4 Payments

(1) The amount of a payment under the scheme is to be determined in accordance with the scheme. (2) The scheme— (a) may provide for the amount of the payment to depend on the age of the person with diffuse mesothelioma, and (b) must ensure that where there are two or more eligible dependants, the amount for each of them is the amount for a single eligible dependant divided by the number of eligible dependants in the case in question. (3) The scheme may— (a) make provision for payments to be made subject to conditions (including conditions as to how a payment may be used), and (b) in particular, give the scheme administrator power to decide when to impose conditions or what conditions to impose. (4) The scheme may make provision for payments to be repaid (in whole or in part) in specified circumstances. (5) An amount that falls to be repaid under subsection (4) is recoverable by the scheme administrator as a debt. (6) The scheme must provide that where an eligible person has made an application in accordance with the scheme and has died before the payment is made, the payment must be made to his or her personal representatives.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
