Climate Change Act 2008

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

23 Alteration of budgetary periods

(1) The Secretary of State may by order amend section 4(1)(a) so as to alter— (a) the length of the budgetary periods, or (b) the dates in the calendar year on which the budgetary periods begin and end. (2) This power may only be exercised if it appears to the Secretary of State necessary to do so in order to keep the budgetary periods under this Part in line with similar periods under any agreement at European or international level to which the United Kingdom is a party. (3) The power may not be exercised in such a way that any period falls outside a budgetary period. (4) An order may make such consequential amendments of the provisions of this Act as appear to the Secretary of State to be necessary or expedient. (5) Before making an order under this section the Secretary of State must consult the other national authorities. (6) An order under this section is subject to affirmative resolution procedure.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
