Crossrail Act 2008

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

46 Compensation for water abstraction

(1) Section 48A(1) of the Water Resources Act 1991 (c. 57) (duty not to cause loss or damage to another by the abstraction of water) shall not apply in relation to the abstraction of water in connection with the exercise of the powers conferred by this Act. (2) Where— (a) the nominated undertaker causes loss or damage to another person by the abstraction of water in connection with the exercise of the powers conferred by this Act, and (b) the circumstances are such that causing the loss or damage would have constituted breach of the duty under section 48A(1) of the Water Resources Act 1991, but for subsection (1), it shall compensate the other person for the loss or damage. (3) Compensation under subsection (2) shall be assessed on the same basis as damages for breach of the duty under section 48A(1) of the Water Resources Act 1991. (4) Section 48A(5) of the Water Resources Act 1991 (prohibition of claims in respect of loss or damage caused by abstraction of water which are not claims under that section) has no application to claims under this section or Part 3 of Schedule 17. (5) In this section, “abstraction” has the same meaning as in the Water Resources Act 1991.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
