Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act 2023

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

4 Actions of the ICRIR: safeguards

(1) The ICRIR must not do anything which— (a) would risk prejudicing, or would prejudice, the national security interests of the United Kingdom, (b) would risk putting, or would put, the life or safety of any person at risk, or (c) would risk having, or would have, a prejudicial effect on any actual or prospective criminal proceedings in any part of the United Kingdom. (2) In relation to something done by the ICRIR, criminal proceedings are “prospective” if, in the view of the ICRIR, the proceedings are likely to be brought within a reasonable period after that thing is done. (3) Subsection (1)(c) does not apply to grants of immunity from prosecution by the ICRIR under section 19 (but see paragraph 3 of Schedule 5). (4) For provision about the way in which subsection (1) operates in relation to disclosures of information, see section 30(2) to (9).

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
