Propose a change

Data Protection Act 2018

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

82D Records of designation notices

(1) Where the Secretary of State gives a designation notice— (a) the Secretary of State must send a copy of the notice to the Commission, and (b) the Commission must publish a record of the notice. (2) The record must contain— (a) the Secretary of State’s name, (b) the date on which the notice was given, (c) the date on which the notice ceases to have effect (if not previously withdrawn), and (d) subject to subsection (3), the rest of the text of the notice. (3) The Commission must not publish the text, or a part of the text, of the notice if— (a) the Secretary of State has determined that publishing the text or that part of the text— (i) would be against the interests of national security, (ii) would be contrary to the public interest, or (iii) might jeopardise the safety of any person, and (b) the Secretary of State has notified the Commission of that determination. (4) The Commission must keep the record of the notice available to the public while the notice is in force. (5) Where the Secretary of State gives a withdrawal notice, the Secretary of State must send a copy of the notice to the Commission.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Think it through

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
