Electoral Administration Act 2006

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

35 Certain voters entitled to vote in person

(1) Schedule 4 to the Representation of the People Act 2000 (c. 2) (absent voting in Great Britain) is amended as follows. (2) After paragraph 2(5) insert— (5A) Nothing in the preceding provisions of this paragraph applies to a person to whom section 7 of the 1983 Act (mental patients who are not detained offenders) applies and who is liable, by virtue of any enactment, to be detained in the mental hospital in question, whether he is registered by virtue of that provision or not; and such a person may vote— (a) in person (where he is granted permission to be absent from the hospital and voting in person does not breach any condition attached to that permission), or (b) by post or by proxy (where he is entitled as an elector to vote by post or, as the case may be, by proxy at the election). (3) In paragraph 2(6), omit paragraph (a) and the “or” following it. (4) This section does not apply to local government elections in Scotland (within the meaning of the 1983 Act).

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
