Propose a change

Commons Act 2006

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

35 Rules: supplementary

(1) Any power to make rules conferred on a commons council under section 31 includes power to vary or revoke the rules made by the council. (2) An order under section 26 conferring a power to make rules may provide for the procedure to be followed in the exercise of the power (and may in particular require the consent of the appropriate national authority to be obtained before rules are made). (3) The appropriate national authority may by direction revoke any rule made by a commons council. (4) A direction under subsection (3) must set out the reason why the rule is being revoked. (5) Before revoking any rule under subsection (3) the appropriate national authority must consult— (a) the commons council; and (b) any other person it thinks appropriate.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
