Seafarers’ Wages Act 2023

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

16 Directions

(1) The Secretary of State may give directions to any one or more harbour authorities requiring them— (a) to not do anything they would otherwise be under a duty to do by reason of this Act, or (b) to comply with any of their duties under this Act in a particular way. (2) Directions under this section may be varied or revoked. (3) The Secretary of State must publish any directions under this section in such manner as the Secretary of State thinks fit. (4) A harbour authority which fails to comply with a direction given to it under this section or section 10(9) or (11) is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction— (a) in England and Wales, to a fine, or (b) in Scotland and Northern Ireland, to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
