Charities Act 2011

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

52 Power to call for documents

(1) The Commission may by order— (a) require any person to provide the Commission with any information which is in that person's possession and which— (i) relates to any charity, and (ii) is relevant to the discharge of the functions of the Commission or of the official custodian; (b) require any person who has custody or control of any document which relates to any charity and is relevant to the discharge of the functions of the Commission or of the official custodian— (i) to provide the Commission with a copy of or extract from the document, or (ii) to transmit the document itself to the Commission for its inspection (unless the document forms part of the records or other documents of a court or of a public or local authority). (2) The Commission is entitled without payment to keep any copy or extract provided to it under subsection (1). (3) If a document transmitted to the Commission under subsection (1) for it to inspect— (a) relates only to one or more charities, and (b) is not held by any person entitled as trustee or otherwise to the custody of it, the Commission may keep it or may deliver it to the charity trustees or to any other person who may be so entitled. (4) This section has effect in relation to any body entered in the Scottish Charity Register which is managed or controlled wholly or mainly in or from England or Wales as it has effect in relation to a charity.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
