Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

8 Saving provisions

(1) An amendment made by a provision of this Act does not affect the validity of— (a) any marriage solemnised, or (b) any civil partnership registered, before the day on which that provision comes into force. (2) The amendment made by section 4(3) does not affect the treatment as a civil partnership of an overseas relationship that is registered under the relevant law as having been entered into before that provision comes into force. (3) In subsection (2)— “overseas relationship” has the same meaning as in the Civil Partnership Act 2004 (see section 212(1) of that Act); “the relevant law” has the same meaning as in Chapter 2 of Part 5 of that Act (see section 212(2) of that Act).

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
