Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

What to do with it
As published

131 Application of net amount of levy payments

(1) In relation to a late night levy requirement, the net amount of levy payments for any levy year must be applied as follows. (2) The licensing authority— (a) must pay the specified proportion of that amount to the relevant local policing body, and (b) must apply the remainder of that amount in accordance with regulations. (3) In subsection (2)(a), “specified proportion” means the proportion determined for the levy year under section 132(1)(b) or 133(1)(d). (4) The specified proportion must be not less than 70 per cent. (4A) The licensing authority must publish information as to how it applies the remainder of the net amount mentioned in subsection (2)(b). (4B) The information must be published at least once in each calendar year during which any part of the remainder is applied. (4C) It is for the licensing authority to determine the manner in which the information is published. (5) Regulations may amend subsection (4) by specifying a different proportion in place of the proportion for the time being specified in that subsection. (6) Regulations may make provision— (a) as to the time or times at which payments are to be made by the licensing authority under subsection (2); (b) for adjustments of payments in cases where payments or repayments are made in respect of a levy after the end of the levy year. (7) Regulations under this section may make provision conferring functions or a discretion on a licensing authority.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
