Vehicles (Excise) Act 1971 (Repealed 1.9.1994)

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

30 Limitation on the bringing of proceedings for recovery of underpayments and overpayments of duty.

(1) Where the amount of the duty which has been paid on a vehicle licence for a vehicle is less than the amount payable on the licence appropriate to that vehicle, the Secretary of State may take proceedings for the recovery of that amount at any time before the expiration of the twelve months beginning with the end of the period in respect of which the licence was taken out. (2) No proceedings shall be brought for enforcing any repayment of duty to which a person may be entitled in respect of any overpayment of duty made on a vehicle licence taken out by him, unless the proceedings are brought before the expiration of the twelve months beginning with the end of the period in respect of which the licence was taken out.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
