Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

330 Supplementary charge in respect of ring fence trades

(1) If a company carries on a ring fence trade in an accounting period, a sum equal to 10% of its adjusted ring fence profits for that period is to be charged on the company as if it were an amount of corporation tax chargeable on the company. (2) A company's “adjusted ring fence profits” for an accounting period are the amount which, on the assumption mentioned in subsection (3), would be determined for that period as the company's ring fence profits chargeable to corporation tax. See also sections 330A and 330B (which provide for the amount of adjusted ring fence profits to be further adjusted where decommissioning expenditure has been taken into account). (3) The assumption is that financing costs are left out of account in calculating— (a) the amount of the profits or loss of any ring fence trade of the company for an accounting period, and (b) if for any such period the whole or part of any loss relief is surrendered to the company in accordance with section 305(1), the amount of that relief or part. (4) See also section 331 (meaning of financing costs etc). (5) This Chapter is subject to— (a) Chapter 6A (reduction of supplementary charge: investment allowance), (b) Chapter 8 (reduction of supplementary charge: onshore allowance), and (c) Chapter 9 (reduction of supplementary charge: cluster area allowance).

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
