RSA 21-M Department of Justice

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

21-M:1 Findings; Intent.

The general court finds that, despite the highly skilled work performed and the excellent reputation attained by the office of the attorney general over the years, there is a need for more opportunities for career advancement within the office. It further finds an ever-increasing need for greater emphasis on newer fields of endeavor such as consumer protection and environmental protection, in addition to a steadily rising demand on the office in the areas of criminal justice and assistance to other state departments. Further, the general court finds the attorney general is in great need of assistance in the administration of the functions of the office by the establishment of intermediate levels of supervision. One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Think it through

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
