Propose a change

Localism Act 2011

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

217A Political activities of officers and staff etc

(1) Section 1 of the LGHA 1989 (disqualification and political restriction of certain officers and staff), and sections 2 and 3A of that Act so far as they have effect for the purposes of section 1, apply in relation to an MDC outside London as if it were a local authority. (2) Section 5 of the LGHA 1989 (designation and reports of monitoring officer) applies in relation to a combined authority or CCA as if an MDC for an area in the area of the combined authority or CCA were a committee of the combined authority or CCA. (3) In this section— “LGHA 1989” means the Local Government and Housing Act 1989; “MDC outside London” means an MDC for an area in the area of a combined authority or CCA.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Think it through

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
