European Union Referendum Act 2015

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

Change 1

What to do with it
As published

7 Duty to publish information about membership of the European Union etc

(1) The Secretary of State must publish a report which contains (alone or with other material)— (a) information about rights, and obligations, that arise under European Union law as a result of the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union, and (b) examples of countries that do not have membership of the European Union but do have other arrangements with the European Union (describing, in the case of each country given as an example, those arrangements). (2) The report must be published before the beginning of the final 10 week period. (3) In this section “the final 10 week period” means the period of 10 weeks ending with the date of the referendum. (4) A copy of the report published under this section must be laid before Parliament by the Secretary of State.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Think it through

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
