Social Security Administration Act 1992

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

158 Treatment of excess benefit as paid on account of child benefit

(1) In any case where— (a) any benefit as defined in section 122 of the Contributions and Benefits Act or any increase of such benefit (“the relevant benefit or increase”) has been paid to a person for a period in respect of a child or qualifying young person; and (b) subsequently child benefit for that period in respect of the child or qualifying young person becomes payable at a rate which is such that, had the relevant benefit or increase been awarded after the child benefit became payable, the rate of the relevant benefit or increase would have been reduced, then, except in so far as regulations otherwise provide, the excess shall be treated as paid on account of child benefit for that period in respect of the child or qualifying young person. (2) In subsection (1) above “the excess” means so much of the relevant benefit or increase as is equal to the difference between— (a) the amount of it which was paid for the period referred to in that subsection; and (b) the amount of it which would have been paid for that period if it had been paid at the reduced rate referred to in paragraph (b) of that subsection.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
