Income Tax Act 2007

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

257DG The control and independence requirement

(1) The control element of the requirement is that— (a) the issuing company must not at any time in period A control (whether on its own or together with any person connected with it) any company which is not a qualifying subsidiary of the issuing company, and (b) no arrangements must be in existence at any time in that period by virtue of which the issuing company could fail to meet paragraph (a) (whether during that period or otherwise). (2) The independence element of the requirement is that— (a) the issuing company must not at any time in period A (ignoring any on-the-shelf period) be within subsection (2A), and (b) no arrangements must be in existence at any time in period A by virtue of which the issuing company could be within that subsection (whether during period A or otherwise). (2A) The issuing company is within this subsection at any time if it is under the control of any other company (or of another company and any other person connected with that other company). (2B) In subsection (2)(a) “on-the-shelf period” means a period during which the issuing company— (a) has not issued any shares other than subscriber shares, and (b) has not begun to carry on, or make preparations for carrying on, any trade or business. (3) This section is subject to section 257HB(4) (exchange of shares).

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
