Northern Ireland Assembly (Elections and Periods of Suspension) Act 2003

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

4 Remuneration of members of the Assembly

(1) In relation to the dissolution of the Assembly on 28th April 2003 and the next Assembly election, section 47 of the 1998 Act (remuneration of members) is to have effect as if, for subsection (10) of that section, there were substituted— (10) For the purposes of this section, a person who is a member of the Assembly immediately before the Assembly is dissolved shall be treated— (a) as if he were a member of the Assembly until the end of the day which is the latest day for the delivery of nomination papers for the next Assembly election; and (b) if he is nominated as a candidate at the next Assembly election, as if he were a member of the Assembly until the end of the day of the poll for that election. (2) Subsection (1) does not affect an entitlement any person has by virtue of section 47(10) of the 1998 Act in respect of any period before the passing of this Act. (3) While section 1 of the Northern Ireland Act 2000 (c. 1) is in force, references in subsections (1) and (2) to section 47 of the 1998 Act are to be read with paragraph 9 of the Schedule to the 2000 Act. (4) In this section, “the next Assembly election” means the election the poll for which is to be held on the date specified in an order under section 31(2) of the 1998 Act (as substituted by section 1(2) of this Act) .

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
