Legal Services Act 2007

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

204 Orders, regulations and rules

(1) Any order or regulations made by the Lord Chancellor under this Act must be made by statutory instrument. (2) Any rules made by the Board under section 37(4), 95(3) or 173 must be made by statutory instrument, and the Statutory Instruments Act 1946 (c. 36) applies to the Board's powers to make rules under those sections as if the Board were a Minister of the Crown. (3) An instrument to which this subsection applies may— (a) provide for a person to exercise a discretion in dealing with any matter; (b) include incidental, supplementary and consequential provision; (c) make transitory or transitional provision and savings; (d) make provision generally or subject to exceptions or only in relation to specified cases; (e) make different provision for different cases or circumstances or for different purposes. (4) Subsection (3) applies to— (a) any order or regulations made by the Lord Chancellor, (b) any rules or regulations made by the Board, and (c) any rules made by the OLC, under or by virtue of this Act.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
