Banking Act 2009

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

78A Pre-conditions for financial assistance: duty of Bank to give information

(1) The Treasury may at any time require the Bank of England to inform them in writing whether or not a condition for financial assistance has been met in relation to a particular bank. (2) “Condition for financial assistance” means a condition specified in— (a) Article 37(10)(a) (financial assistance through government stabilisation tools), or (b) Article 44(5)(a) (contributions to institution from resolution financing arrangement where bail-in liabilities have been excluded from bail-in), of the recovery and resolution directive. (3) If the Bank of England seeks the Treasury’s consent to the making of a mandatory reduction instrument or the exercise of a stabilisation power in accordance with section 78, the Bank must notify the Treasury in writing— (a) whether or not the proposals involve action in relation to which a condition for financial assistance applies, and (b) if the proposals do involve such action, whether or not the condition in question has been met. (4) This section does not apply where the Bank of England has required, or decided to require, a recapitalisation payment under section 214E of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
