Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014

Write the words of this act the way you think they should read. Solon shows your change as a redline against the published text and pins it to that exact text, so it can never be applied to wording you did not see.

3 Registration

(1) An application for the registration of a society under this Act is made by sending the following to the FCA— (a) an application for registration, signed by— (i) the society's secretary and 3 of its members, or (ii) where both or all of its members are registered societies, the secretaries of 2 of those registered societies, and (b) 2 copies of the society's rules or, if the application is made by electronic means, 1 copy of those rules. (2) If the FCA is satisfied that the society has complied with the requirements under this Act as to registration, it must— (a) register the society, and (b) give the society an acknowledgment of registration bearing the FCA's seal. (3) A registered society is by virtue of its registration a body corporate by its registered name, with limited liability. (4) The society may sue and be sued by its registered name. (5) Registration vests in the society all property for the time being vested in any person in trust for the society. (6) Any legal proceedings pending by or against the trustees of the society may (once the society is registered) be brought or continued by or against the society. (7) The acknowledgement of registration also constitutes an acknowledgment of, and is conclusive evidence of, the registration under this Act of the rules of the society in force at the date of the society's registration.

One line that says what changes, such as "Halve the dog tax".

Who it helps, what it costs, what it fixes. It is what persuades people to support it.

A proposal here is not law. Support on Solon is evidence that people want the change; the official route says what it takes to make it law.

Ask what your change would do, who would gain and who would bear a cost, and where something like it is already law. The assistant reads your draft as it stands, cites the law and the studies it finds, and takes no side. What you file stays yours.
